Dr R. Marika, Educationalist, Linguist, Reconciliation Champion
Dr R. Marika passed away in May 2008. She came from the Rirratjingu people in the Northern Territory and worked predominantly in the education field. She had been involved in collaboratively working in the Indigenous languages strand of the Northern Territory Curriculum Frameworks and was a Council Member of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, Dhimurru Land Management and the Nambara School Council. Dr Marika was the 2007 Australian of the Year for the Northern Territory and sat on the board of Reconciliation Australia.
